In this video I show how to measure a flashlight’s amperage at various levels using a DC clamp meter. This is helpful especially on drivers like h17f where you will set the brightness you want, and have no idea what the draw is. Then with the amperage figure you can calculate runtime at the modes you’ve set.

    Such a great guide- thanks for putting this together! I haven’t been able to pull the trigger quite yet on a Hanko but the few that I’ve handled always just feel special. I don’t think I’ve come across smoother threads on practically anything- let alone other lights. The Tesseract milling just pulls me in too. Anyway, I always seem to miss out on the non-exotic versions and I’m tempted to go after one on the secondary market. What are your thoughts on secondary pricing for the non-exotic models? I know the obvious answer would be: “they’re worth what people are willing to pay” but do you feel that there may be even better options in that 1K+ territory or do you still feel that they hold their own?

  • @randomescu
    @randomescu 2 дня назад

    Its still too big for me. I rather go with Olight Baton 3 or 4 non-premium as a flooder and a Lumintop GTA as thrower, to keep it very lightweight and portable! But in fact i go with Seeker4Pro as flooder and JavelotMini as thrower. Still very portable on my belt. What ill try very soon, im waiting to arrive: Warrior3S. It might be the best compromise between flood and throw. I already tried Baton3ProMax as a compromise but it sucks, its getting hot very fast even on High, not only Turbo. Thats a failed light, Olight! And you can see im a fan, not a hater.

    For replacement batteries, I highly recommend Molicel p42b or p45b. You can find them online for less than 10 bucks a piece. The Wuben replacement is over 20. Sony and Samsung high amp batteries are also good. I don't trust most others. There's a guy that goes by "Battery Mooch" that does indepth testing on batteries.

    Nitecore was really onto something with those funky chonky designs. TM39 is a similar kind of beast, in that it just holds turbo until the temperature hits 50C. That can easily take over six minutes. Indoors. I've never tested it outdoors in cool air, but I can only imagine it could potentially hold turbo until the battery runs out in cold enough weather. It's also nice how you know exactly when the stepdown will happen, just by keeping an eye on the temperature reading in the LED display. I wonder if the TM28 has a similar kind of temp based turbo stepdown?

  • @FRESH-UNIT
    @FRESH-UNIT 5 дней назад

    The side switch on the warrior Mini 3 is stainless steel not plastic, also the warrior Mini 2 proximity sensor can be defeated all you have to do is double press again and turbo stays on no matter what's in front of it.

    The Weltool T1 Pro (V2) is such nice pocket thrower but you get about 35 minutes on High with a 14500 and then it turns off. I wish that it would let me turn it back on in a Low mode. Medium is more than enough, with about 1 hour 43 minutes before it turns off.

    • @cheule
      @cheule 5 дней назад

      This is good info to add. Thank you. I will point out that it’s most likely due to the dual fuel driver. There is no LVP in the driver at all, because it can run on alkalines. So that cutoff is in the protected 14500 itself. If you put an unprotected 14500 in there it would run all the way to 0v, which would damage your cell, but not cut off like you mentioned.

Mine is an early iteration that had XM-L U2 emitters making 3,500 lumens but pushing only 43k candela. Nowhere near the throw of later models but it was state of the art and a ton of light in 2013. Hello, I want to buy a flashlight to scan the area for security before sleeping in tent camps and caravan activities. To protect from wild animals, malicious and drunk people. I decided on the Konvoy L7 SBT90.2 flashlight but I wanted to consult you before buying it. Do you think I should buy it or can you recommend me another brand model that is very successful with my long range? In addition, I have never seen a review on your channel, everyone suggested me to buy a ledlenser mt14 for use in camps and daily life. I am a family of 4. I have 2 daughters and 1 wife. I want to buy 1 flashlight for everyone including myself. I want it to be in our bags and pockets except for my long range. Do you think I should buy a ledlenser mt14 or do you recommend another flashlight instead? Or do you think I should buy an edc flashlight for daily life?

    • @cheule
      @cheule 6 дней назад

      The Convoy L7 SBT90.2 is a heck of a light. It will put out a ton of light and run very hot on turbo modes. In general use, I like SFT40 based flashlights more than SBT90.2. The SBT90.2 is a brighter emitter, but it consumes battery much faster and generates a lot of heat. A Convoy M21B with SFT40 is about $28 and what is recommend.

    What should I do if the x axis moves up if I unplug the z axis limit switch, and when the limit switch is connected, the 3d printer uses the z axis limit switch for homing instead of using the bl touch for homing, which throws off the homing so much that no matter what z offset setting I use, the nozzle starts printing 3 or 4 mm above the bed. It's probably an issue in the configuration file, but I'm not sure what should be changed.

    One thing I enjoy the TM2X line is how futuristic but austere it looks, despite being pretty old. Which obviously is why it was picked to be a prop in so much of the sci-fi part of Hollywood. On that front I like it almost as much as I like the "Gatling chaingun" Fenix TK45. Now, you know what I'd LOVE to see in this line? A TM28-46 conversion to a single cell 46800/46950 cell. With current technology, one battery is enough to fuel all those lumens pretty sustainably, a set of SBT90.2s or XHP50.3s would pick up any slack, and the one single cell would make the Tiny Monster a far, _far_ easier deal to recharge and maintain.

    • @cheule
      @cheule 6 дней назад

      Something that’s good about multiple batteries in series is that at high output, during battery sag, the voltage of the batteries will still be higher than the forward voltage of the emitters. Sometimes with a single cell, under high drain the battery will sag and create step down. The batteries you listed are massive though, and they may not sag nearly at all. So there’s that.

    Would the Weltool T12 have to have e-elements since it is both forward AND reverse?

      If I recall correctly (I gave my T12 to a friend), it has a side eSwitch and a mechanical tail switch. I think the tail switch was a forward clicky. But again don’t quote me.

      @@cheule I have one-there’s just a tail switch that you can half-press for momentary (forward clicky), but then once it clicks, it’s on a different mode, as if a reverse-clicky. Half-press once it’s in to cycle between two modes. So since it’s sort of a combo reverse/forward I was just wondering where it would fit into the discussion, and if that’s still considered mechanical.

    BTW if no-one has already mentioned it, great idea with the drone down the street at the Palm trees. One other thing I was curious about and that is optics. With flashlights the colour temp etc seems to largely be dependant on the emitter but with binoculars for example, it is very much dependant on the optic coatings and glass quality. So do flashlight makers not really do much with that tech apart from basic antireflective glass? As you say you like light and I have found myself addicted somewhat to sport optics and have a couple of small but expensive Leica and Zeiss binoculars though basic Chinese stuff is very good nowadays but you are talking several thousands of dollars for the top western models. I guess in the flashlight world there isn't really any demand for specific colour rendering optics except maybe for customs?

      Multi coated lens optics are designed to reduce reflections and raise light pass through. An uncoated glass element might have as much as 4% light loss per side, so up to 8% for a single lens. Coatings can reduce that well below 1% with the best multi coatings reducing it to 0.1% per side. So very well multicoated glass might have up to 99.99% transmission rates.
